Life Line (2009) explores the tension between material and form: composed of terracotta pieces that recall the red brick buildings of Lahore, the piece reimagines this rigid, utilitarian material into something fluid. Each unit of brick is patterned into a uniform structure that takes on an organic, relaxed form. Here, terracotta appears woven together, delicately folded and draped, mimicking the texture and movement of woven fabric.
By transforming a material often used for building permanence and stability into a soft, textile-like form, the artist challenges conventional perceptions of scale and function. The visual illusion of flexibility, paired with the physical fragility of fired clay, evokes themes of endurance, adaptation, and the passage of time.
